BCO Announces It's 13th Season!
JINX, THE CURSE OF THE 9TH!
"The conductor of the Boulder Chamber Orchestra (BCO) just released the group’s 2016–17 season, and they are meeting two great jinxes head-on. The concert season of 2016-17 saw the Boulder Chamber Orchestra reach a milestone with the Macky Auditorium staging of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony last May. While the progression was natural — completing a Beethoven symphonic cycle over the course of the orchestra's 13-year existence — such a large-scale piece is really beyond the scope of the orchestra's original mission.
When Bahman Saless started the Boulder Chamber Orchestra in 2004, he was an aspiring maestro with a big vision — and 13 years later, that vision reaches a culmination with next week's season finale concerts featuring Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, the 1824 work that ranks among the most popular and familiar of all classical compositions, and around whose mystique — including the so-called "Curse of the Ninth" — Saless structured the 2016-17 season.
