"The Boulder Chamber Orchestra: Contrasts and Artistry"

An Article by Robin McNeil,
Opus Colorado Music Critic

This performance was completely fresh in so many ways: the clarity and transparency in the way the BCO performed these classical period pieces was absolutely breathtaking. Their phrasing was meticulous, as were their attacks, which were quite stunning because there were no ill-defined entrances whatsoever. The entire orchestra seemed very excited to get the season underway after all of the rehearsals, and there was a marked vigorousness and uniformity of purpose in the way they played.

"I had been wanting to hear Prokofiev's Classical Symphony for about 25 years"

An email from W. Scott Mersch,
Activities and Volunteer Coordinator, Sunrise at FlatIrons

Yes, we all enjoyed the concert very much. Two of my residents who went are serious classical music fans, and both said that it was one of the best concerts they have been to (and they have around a long time!). And, I agree with them (I'm a serious classical music fan, too, but haven't been around quite as long). It was wonderful to hear the three selections that were played, as they seem to be infrequently performed. I had been wanting to hear Prokofiev's Classical Symphony for about 25 years (maybe I have been around longer than I care to admit), after I first became familiar with it from a music appreciation class in college. I also enjoyed the information and thoughts shared by Maestro Saless. That made the concert and the music itself more meaningful.

"The Boulder Chamber Orchestra is superb."

An Article by Robin McNeil,
Opus Colorado Music Critic

This concert season, there have been four or five ensembles that have been consistently excellent, and there is no doubt that the Boulder Chamber Orchestra under the directorship of Maestro Bahman Saless is one of those ensembles. Friday night, February 10, they presented an outstanding program at the Broomfield Auditorium, in which they performed works by Biber, Mozart, Diamond, and Tchaikovsky. The only disappointing aspect of this performance was that the audience attendance was much smaller than it should have been.

"Mozart plus Saless and Morgan: Spellbinding"

An Article by Robin McNeil,
Opus Colorado Music Critic

Friday evening, October 28, I attended a concert at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral on 14th Avenue and Washington Street. This is one concert that I had been looking forward to, for it was a joint venture between two very exciting music organizations in the state, if not the entire Rocky Mountain region. It was a combined concert between the Ars Nova Singers, conducted by Thomas Edward Morgan, and the Boulder Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Bahman Saless. The main event of this concert was the Mozart Requiem, which as everyone knows, is one of the Requiem Masses of all time. The Mozart Requiem was sung after the intermission, but before the intermission were two absolute gems: the Concerto for Strings in D minor, RV 127, by Antonio Vivaldi, and the Cantique de Jean Racine, by Gabriel Fauré.

"Lindsay Deutsch, Bahman Saless, and the Boulder Chamber Orchestra are World Class"

An Article by Robin McNeil,
Opus Colorado Music Critic

The last four weeks have been amazing. I have attended four concerts, one of which was very good, one which was excellent, and two which were extraordinary and worthy of any concert hall you would care to name. One of the extraordinary concerts was Saturday night, October 1, given by the Boulder Chamber Orchestra at the Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church of Denver.

A spontaneous letter of feedback from one of our patrons.

"February 2011

Maestro dear ~

I have heard 'Appalachian Spring' performed many times over the years but I can never recall being as moved by the piece as I was at the Boulder Chamber Orchestra's rendition on Friday night last in Boulder.

The flute player, some modern-day Pan, and the clarinet player took the piece a place I had never been to before. Of course all the musicians shone.

Thank you for this transcendant performance. And thank you for continuing to bring magical music to our community.

Your most appreciative fan ~
Cindy Morris"

Some Prokofiev

"Some Prokofiev"

Posted by Art Smoot

Last night Prokofiev's Second Violin Concerto was performed by Lindsay Deutsch with the Boulder Chamber Orchestra, Bahman Saless conducting. I must admit that I was a bit apprehensive about it because it's reputed to be a complicated piece for all involved. Deutsch and Saless pulled it off successfully.

"Boulder Chamber Orchestra plans to mix things up"

An Article by Kelly Dean Hansen,
Camera Classical Music Writer

When music director Bahman Saless considered the theme for the Boulder Chamber Orchestra's eighth season, he realized he wanted to do many diverse pieces that were difficult to put together in a semantic sense. He also realized he wanted to experiment with concerts that created interest through extreme contrast.

"The Boulder Chamber Orchestra programs gifted artists"

An Article by Robin McNeil,
Opus Colorado Music Critic

Maestro Bahman Saless has done it again! Look at all the soloists on this seasonís program. Could it be any better than this? Four absolutely wonderful pianists, one terrific organist, and two fine sopranos add up to an absolutely stellar season. And, for all of you music lovers who like things that go bump in the night, Maestro Saless has programmed the Music to Psycho for their Halloween concert. As a matter of fact, the entire season is entitled, mysteriously, Symphonic Alchemy.

"Orchestra brings 'Joy' to Broomfield Auditorium"

An Article by Dylan Otto Krider, for the Enterprise

After four seasons of concerts in Broomfield paired with shows in Boulder, the Boulder Chamber Orchestra has been absent locally -- and the season is half over.

Orchestra founder and artistic director Bahman Saless wants Broomfielders to know it wasn't by choice.

"I don't want to be perceived as one of those cocky Boulder groups," said Saless, who gets peppered with a lot of questions from Broomfield fans about the group's absence. "(Broomfield) is very supportive and they've got a great auditorium, we do all our recordings there."

"Boulder orchestras open seasons"

An Article by Wes Blomster,Camera Classical Music Critic, September 27th, 2010

Mozart is the measure. That's the golden rule behind the success that Bahman Saless has brought to the Boulder Chamber Orchestra. "During our first five years we played no Mozart," says Saless, who opens the seventh BCO season next weekend. "His music is perfect, and he makes the greatest demands on an orchestra of any composer. "But now we're ready to take a big step forward and play Mozart -- even when he demands the most!"

"Lindsay is everything we expected and more. She is a fantastic musician, yet a gracious and lovable collaborator. The Orchestra, myself and the staff truly enjoyed working with her and we made some great music. The house was almost completely packed both nights and she got standing ovation every time! What else can I say? I look forward to working with her again in the near future."

"Going for Baroque - The Boulder Chamber Orchestra's Women Are Perfectly in Tune" by Wendy Kale

The women outnumber the men in the Boulder Chamber Orchestra, giving the classical group's string performances a very sweet edge. To add to that sweetness, the non-profit group also offers education and outreach programs to the Boulder community.

The BCO has only been in existence since 2004, but the group has already become the town's premier chamber group. Under the leadership of musical director Bahman Saless, the orchestra has come to the forefront of the local cultural scene by presenting classical pieces that aren't often heard in a chamber setting.
