Ajax Quartet

Founded in September 2016, Ajax Quartet is an emerging string quartet comprised of violinists Tom Yaron and Renée Hemsing Patten, violist Mario Rivera, and cellist Eric Haugen. Only months after its founding Ajax was selected by the Grammy award-winning Takacs Quartet for the prestigious graduate string quartet residency at the University of Colorado. Ajax shares a relationship with the Aspen Music Festival and School, where they serve as Musical Connections Resident Artists throughout the year. Tour highlights from the 2017-18 season include a program at the Finnish Embassy in Washington DC celebrating the centennial of Finnish Independence and a tour to the United Kingdom with engagements in London and Cambridge. In Spring of 2018, Ajax won the silver medal prize at the Coltman National Chamber Music Competition in Austin, Texas, and were finalists at the Chesapeake International Chamber Music Competition in Easton, Maryland and quarterfinalists at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition in South Bend, Indiana. As the graduate Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Colorado, the group enjoys weekly coaching and guidance from the Takacs Quartet and coaches younger students & chamber groups in the College of Music.
