Szilvia Schranz - Soprano
Szilvia Schranz was born in Budapest, Hungary, into a family of musicians who had served for generations at the Hungarian National Opera House and with the Hungarian Festival Orchestra. At the age of ten, she moved with her family to Boulder, Colorado, where she later pursued voice studies at the University of Colorado. She went on to earn a postgraduate diploma in vocal training from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, studying under the renowned vocal pedagogue Vera Rózsa, and subsequently completed a master’s degree in vocal performance at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
Ms. Schranz has appeared as a guest artist with the GRAMMY Award-winning Takács Quartet and performed with the Tony Award-winning Denver Center for the Performing Arts Theatre Company. Her multiple engagements with the London Chamber Soloists included solo appearances at prestigious venues such as Queen Elizabeth Hall and St. Martin-in-the-Fields. She has also sung with the New York Philharmonic Chorus under Lorin Maazel and performed at London's Royal Albert Hall under Sir Colin Davis.
At the invitation of Gábor Takács-Nagy, Ms. Schranz performed as a soloist with the MÁV Symphony Orchestra in Budapest, a concert broadcast nationally on Hungarian Bartók Radio. She can also be heard on Arsis Audio’s recording of River of the Trunk by Su Lian Tan, with pianist Margo Garrett.
In collaboration with the late Pulitzer Prize-nominated war photographer Chris Hondros, Ms. Schranz helped develop My Heart, A Well of Tears, a multimedia project combining the music of Bach with images from conflict zones around the world.
Currently, Ms. Schranz continues to perform actively while growing her piano and voice studio for children and young adults. She has appeared frequently with the Boulder Chamber Orchestra, the Boulder Philharmonic, and the Mahler Festival Orchestras, and is a proud member of the Ars Nova Singers.
