Michael Brook
Viola

Michael Brook serves as Concertmaster of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra and Principal Violist of the Colorado Ballet. He is also the Dean and Artistic Director of Opus Colorado College of Music.

He has appeared at Carnegie Hall with the Boulder Chamber Orchestra and performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as part of the SHIFT Festival. His orchestral work includes engagements with the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Music Festival, and Boulder Bach Festival. He has appeared as a substitute violinist with the Broadway production of Hamilton.

Earlier in his career, he served as Assistant Principal Second Violin with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and won the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Artist Concerto Competition. He has competed in the József Szigeti International Violin & Viola Competition and the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition.

Michael holds dual Master of Music degrees in Violin and Viola Performance from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Bachelor of Music degree from Louisiana State University. He has collaborated in orchestral studies workshops with Boston Symphony Concertmaster Nathan Cole and participated in a recording project with violinist Vadim Gluzman.

In addition to his performing career, he is engaged in the study and restoration of historical string instruments, including a 1798 violin by Giuseppe & Antonio Gagliano currently under restoration for future solo performance.

His teachers have included Andrés Cárdenes, Kevork Mardirossian, Espen Lilleslåtten, Lina Bahn, Borislava Ilcheva, Matthew Daline, Erika Eckert, and Matt Dane.
