Randel Leung
Clarinet
Randel Leung joined the Boulder Chamber Orchestra in the fall of 2023. He is an active orchestral musician and educator in Colorado and the Bay Area. Leung frequently performs with the Colorado Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, and Cheyenne Symphony. He has also served as guest principal with a variety of ensembles, including the Central City Opera, New Mexico Philharmonic Orchestra, Festival Orchestra Napa, Fort Collins Symphony, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, Macao Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players. Additionally, he has toured and performed throughout Asia and the United States.
Leung earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado Boulder. He also holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Leung’s primary teachers include Daniel Silver, Joaquin Valdepenas, Jonathan Gunn, Steve Cohen, Richie Hawley, Mark Nuccio, Andre Simon, John Schertle, and Maria Wong. Before pursuing his music degree, he completed a degree in Marine Studies. In past summers, Leung has been awarded fellowships to study and perform with world-class musicians at prestigious music festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, Chautauqua Institution of Arts in New York, Brevard Music Center, and Taipei Music Academy and Festival. His recent honors include First Prize and the Audience Favorite Award in the Bruce Ekstrand Solo Competition, First Prize in the International Clarinet Association Orchestral Audition Competition, and First Prize in the International Concert Artist Competition, which led to him and his duo partner, Yukino Miyake, a Carnegie Hall debut in New York City.
